Want the scoop on CBD balms? They give you some of the benefits of CBD in topical form, so you can use them while massaging tension away when your muscles feel overworked. But what is a CBD balm? And how can it be used in your everyday self-care routine? Here’s the full lowdown – complete with tips to make knotted muscles a thing of the past.
What is a CBD balm?
Put simply, it’s a balm that’s infused with a mega boost of CBD (AKA, cannabidiol), along with a host of other skin-kind and muscle-soothing ingredients. Case in point: we’ve blended our Muscle Rescue CBD Muscle Balm with a refreshing tingle of Eucalyptus. There’s also Shea Butter, Arnica and Aloe Vera in there; a trio of hero hydrators that nourish skin and make the balm quick to massage in. With a melting balm-to-oil texture, Muscle Rescue makes light work of tackling tension, so you can rub it in post-work, post-workout, or whenever you need a dose of self-care.
The benefits of a CBD balm
While CBD oils and CBD capsules interact with your body internally, a CBD balm works on the surface of skin to enhance a muscle-soothing massage. The rich texture makes it easier for fingertips to glide over skin and eke out tension, whether you’re rubbing it into a sore neck, injured knee or achy shoulders. But the benefits don’t stop there – Muscle Rescue CBD Balm also:
Elevates your self-care routine
Because few things say ‘self-care’ like taking time out for a massage. Try it yourself after soaking with the Bath Melt CBD Bath Bomb. That way, in the bath, your sore, tight limbs will be treated to a relaxing blend of Epsom Salts, Chamomile and Coconut Milk, before Muscle Rescue makes way for a knot-releasing massage that targets aches and pains. For extra calm, light the Power Down CBD Scented Candle, and enjoy the peace-giving aroma of Santal, Amber and Musk.
Stays exactly where you want it
Some CBD balms are slippery and sticky – but not Muscle Rescue. It’s specially formulated to stay exactly where you apply it, so you get targeted tension-fighting that won’t transfer onto clothes or sheets. This is extra helpful when you’re using it to warm up for a workout. Prep muscles with your CBD balm, then get your gym gear on and go.
Nourishes your skin
The main goal of Muscle Rescue is to make your daily massage effortless, but – bonus – it’s also brimming with ingredients that nourish your skin. We recently reformulated the balm to pack in even more skin-kind goodness, so you get an added dose of Shea Butter, Aloe Vera and Arnica.
What can you do with a CBD balm?
Give yourself a massage with Muscle Rescue CBD Muscle Balm. Scoop out a generous amount, then try these three muscle-melting techniques:
To ease an achy neck
Gently squeeze the back of your neck with the palm of your hand, then use fingertips to massage the area where your neck and shoulders meet, avoiding the spine. Press, release, then press again until you start to feel relief.
To soothe sore shoulders
Get a little of the balm in the palm of your right hand, then reach over your chest and gently squeeze the back of your left shoulder. Roll that shoulder backwards as you squeeze, until you start to feel tension ease. Repeat on the other side.
To relax overworked hands
Shake your hands out first, then hold out your right hand with fingers spread and the palm facing upward. Wrap your left hand around it from underneath, so your left thumb is pressing into the palm of your right hand. Use this thumb to work from the outside of the palm into the centre in circular motions. Release, then use your left thumb and forefinger to massage the length of each finger on your right hand. When you’re done, switch sides and repeat these steps for the left hand.
When do you use a CBD balm?
You can use a CBD balm, like Muscle Rescue, at any time. Some like to apply it before they work out, as the act of massaging muscles can help to prep and warm up tight limbs. Others may prefer to rub in a scoopful after they’ve exercised, focusing on clicky joints and the soles of feet – any place they tend to hold tension.
CBD balms can also be applied during work. If you spend a lot of time sitting at a desk, keep a jar close by so you can rub the balm into scrunched-up shoulders in between calls. (The kind that really should have been emails). You could also try a CBD massage to relax after WFH, or apply Muscle Rescue before you go to bed. Because it’s non-sticky, you don’t have to worry about getting it on your sheets.
