1. Picking the plant
First up, we work with partner farms to source quality hemp plants. Why hemp exactly? Because CBD is abundant in the hemp plant's many flowers, whilst also naturally containing low amounts of THC.
Once the CBD flowers have been picked, they’re dried so that they’re ready for extraction. And that takes us on to step number two...
2. Extracting the CBD
Once the plant has been processed, the CBD is extracted to create an isolated CBD compound, known as CBD isolate. This process also filters away phytochemicals (plant chemicals) and any heavy metals, so you're left with a pure and concentrated dose of CBD that's perfect for mixing into CBD products.
This isolated ingredient is also free of the bitter, hempy flavours you often find in full-spectrum CBD oils. This means it can be easily combined with delicious and natural flavourings, like the zesty citrus in the Bright Days CBD Oil Drops or the soothing peppermint in the Night-Time CBD Oil Drops.
3. Creating the CBD oil
Next, the CBD isolate is turned into a CBD oil. What some don't know is that CBD isn't extracted as an oil; it turns into one when you mix it with a carrier oil. This is necessary for your body to be able to absorb the CBD, and the choice of oils can range from olive oil to hemp seed oil to coconut oil.
At Cannaray, we use delicious coconut oil for our citrus-flavoured Bright Days CBD Oil Drops, and a mix of both coconut and organic hemp seed oil for our minty Night-Time CBD Oil Drops. Coconut oil is classed as a MCT oil (medium chain triglyceride), which helps to increase the absorbency of the CBD. It's also very stable, so it doesn't oxidise, which gives your CBD oil a longer shelf life.
This also when we choose how strong the CBD oil will be. We dilute it to the correct level, so you get the perfect amount of CBD for everyday dosage. For example, a 30ml bottle of Bright Days CBD Oil Drops gives you 1500mg of CBD in total, while a 30ml bottle of Night-Time CBD Oil Drops contains 1800mg of CBD overall.
4. Bottling the Benefits
Once the CBD oil has been mixed, it’s ready to be bottled. The packaging we use is key here, as it needs to protect the quality of the CBD oil and safeguard it from oxidation. This is why we use dark glass; it helps to shield the oil from UV light and heat to boost the shelf life of the extracts inside. The bottle is then topped with a pipette in the lid, so you can measure out your CBD dosage with ease.
Once you've got your CBD Oil Drops, place them in a cool, dark place and keep the lid tightly closed.
If you're not using the oil regularly, you could even keep it in the fridge. That way it will be fresher for longer.
